T-Rex 600 Setup

Before I start with the T-Rex 600 setup, I would like to discuss the electronics needed for this helicopter. It is well worth the time and money to install good quality and reliable electronics onboard the T-Rex 600. This helicopter is a 50-size helicopter, and could be very dangerous when something goes wrong due to servo or receiver failure.

Three servos for cyclic control
One high speed servo for rudder

Take note that you need a good balanced charger that is capable charging up to six cell LiPo batteries.

Installing the servos

Installing the servos into the T-Rex 600 is fairly easy. The manual illustrates clearly the elevator, aileron and pitch servo position. I have used my Spektrum DS821 Digital Servos for cyclic control with JR extra strong plastic servo arms.

The JR servo arms fits perfectly on the Spektrum DS821 Digital Servos, and are long enough to ensure that the pitch, elevator and aileron push pull linkages can run parallel to each other for optimal power and balance. Standard servo arms are to short and not strong enough to cope with the cyclic forces during 3D flight.

How to set the rudder servo mechanically correct

Complete the following steps:

•	First you need to install the gyro. I have installed my Align GP750 3D gyro on top of the tail boom mount with double-sided sticky tape.
•	Plug the rudder servo into the gyro.
•	The Align GP750 gyro have two connectors. The one connector must be plugged into the rudder channel on the receiver, and the Gain connector into the gear channel on the receiver. (Take note that this applies to my Spektrum DX7 receiver that I’m using, and might differ from other receivers)
•	Secure the metal linkage ball on the rudder servo arm to the hole nearest to the center of the servo. This is crucial when using the Align GP750 3D gyro and Align DS620 Digital Rudder Servo.
•	Install the rudder servo, but do not connect the linkage between the rudder servo and tail rotor control arm yet.
•	Turn on the transmitter and set the rudder trim to neutral.
•	Connect the receiver battery and wait for the gyro to initialize.
•	Connect the rudder linkage to the rudder servo so that the servo arm is at 90º with the tail boom.
•	Move the servo on the tail boom forward or backwards until the tail rotor pitch is neutral. Secure the rudder servo in position by the servo bracket screws on the tail boom.

Now that rudder servo is set mechanically correct, smaller adjustments can be made during flight with
rudder trim adjustments.
