I have to say
that the Align
500E scale
fuselage for the
T-Rex 250 is of
outstanding
quality and
workmanship. I'm
sure that all
R/C helicopter
pilots will love
this little
scale 500E kit.
Technical And
Designing Review
Of The Scale
500E Fuselage
There are two
500E paint
schemes
available to
choose from. A
blue, green and
white 500E
police paint
scheme, or a
yellow, red and
blue civilian
500E color
scheme. Inside
the box you will
find the canopy,
main fuselage,
landing skids,
horizontal and
vertical
stabilizer,
windows and all
the screws and
brackets needed
for
installation.
Everything
inside the box
comes neatly
packed in
plastic bags to
prevent the
perfect paint
scheme on the
fuselage from
scratch during
shipment.
The fuselage and
canopy is made
out of
fiberglass with
plenty of details
like door
hinges, door
handles, door
outlines and air
vents. The
canopy comes
with pre
installed
plastic
windscreen
windows, but the
left and right
front door
windows on the
canopy need to
be installed if
needed. A
plywood tray is
pre-installed in
the fuselage for
securing the
T-Rex 250
helicopter to
the fuselage
with four
screws. The
landing skids
are made from
plastic and
aluminum tubing,
and need to be
glued into
position onto
the plywood tray
inside the
fuselage.
The vertical and horizontal stabilizers are made
from wood that is covered with plastic covering that looks like Solar film. The
only missing part with this kit is a tail boom end-cover. I personally think
that Align could have gone the extra mile to add a tail boom end-cover to this
scale kit. Overall the design of the T-Rex 250 500E scale
fuselage is very good.
Installing The
T-Rex 250 Into The
Scale 500E
Fuselage
This 500E kit
comes with a
well explained
easy to
understand
manual. Follow
the easy steps,
and the T-Rex
250 will be
completely
installed into
the 500E scale
fuselage under
two hours,
including the
time for the
epoxy glue to
set. Only the
landing skids,
horizontal and
vertical fins
need to be glued
with epoxy.
Just make sure that you glue the landing skid
struts the same way around on the left site as the right side. I have build
my own LiPo battery tray from 2mm carbon fiber sheeting to get the LiPo battery
as far forward as possible. You can fly the helicopter with the original LiPo
battery tray, but the helicopter is a bit tail heavy. I have also added 20 grams
of lead below the battery tray for extra nose weight to ensure for a perfect C.G.
Conclusion
I
can highly
recommend the
500E scale kit,
but keep in mind
that the total
weight of the
T-Rex 250 will
increased, so
the 3D
performance will
be less compared
to the T-Rex 250
with standard
stock canopy.
Never less, the
T-Rex 250 flies
very well with
this scale
fuselage, and I
really enjoy
flying my little
500E T-Rex 250.
So will you...
